    Hi,
..Dell Optiplex gx-260 desktop with xp sp2..

I have an internal dvd burner hooked up externally with an ide to 2.0 usb cable.
Every so often it freezes the whole system and I can't do squat except turn it off manually because it won't even go through the shutdown. As soon as I unplug the cable it instantly comes back to life. It did the same thing with a hard drive so I know it's not the drive itself.
I bought the ide to usb adapter cord off ebay for like 5 bucks so could the problem just be a shoddy cord? It has its own power supply.
Drivers are updated and I'm sure the ports are 2.0.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
    Thanks

    Yea, it's listed.
    Intel(R)8201DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhance Host Controller 24CD
When I plug it in it recognizes it as 2.0 and loads drivers and everything looks good to go....then it freezes the whole system. The instant I unplug it, the system starts back up.
    Thanks
