High end computer crashing in COD4 and UT3

    Well i recently built a new computer for around $700, and I'm pretty sure its capable of running games like Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis, Quake Wars, and other high end games that were just released. I'll list my specs then my problem.

    Specs:
    Microsoft Windows Professional XP
    KN9 SLI Motherboard NVIDIA nForce 570 Chipset
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
    3.00 GHz, 2.00 GB of Patriot DDR2 RAM
    PCI-Express nVidia 8600 GT (Factory Overclocked)
    Audigy Creative 5.1 Soundcard
    700w Gamer Powersupply

    My problem:
    When I play games like COD4 and UT3 it runs smoothly on high settings at 1024x768, but after about 30 minutes the entire computer crashes and turns off. While I'm playing my games, I watch the CPU meter on my Logitech G15 Keyboard and the CPU shoots up between %70-90 and the ram goes up to 50%. Is this the problem? Or does it have to do with something else?

    probably the cooling. I bet that your CPU is overheating and shuts off. Try monitoring it. Shouldnt get above 50C

    im also guessing it was the cpu. I have a question. can a lack of thermal paste be the problem making it overheat? because i have 6 fans including the one on the CPU. should i maybe get a new heatsink/fan?

    YES! It very well may be the thermal paste. You must cover all of the cpu with a thin layer of thermal paste. Arctic Silver 5 is the best, but regular thermal paste will work to. Make sure the HSF is on right, nice and tight around the cpu.

    What are your cpu temps?

    well unfortunately i cant tell you my temp atm since my desktop is currently on the ground opened up. I looked up the directions for Arctic silver 5 and it said to apply 3/4 the size of a BB of thermal compound onto the processor. Is that really all i need to put? im planning on getting AS5

					Define "gamer powersupply" I'm guessing you have a really bad power supply. 700W units don't come cheap, and your PC isn't exactly expensive.
