got a MacBook about 3 months ago, and tonight I thought I would try something really stupid... I put in a Windows Vista intallation disc, trying to install it. I got to the point where it tried to format the hard drive, but it wasn't able to do that because its a different file system. So after that I tried to restart and go back to my Mac OS X... but I wasn't successful. I tried to put in the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 but after the MacBook tried reading the disc for a few minutes it came to a dark screen telling me to restart the computer. I have tried more then 10 times now and I keep getting the same screen. Can anyone please tell me what I can do o fix this and install Mac OS X back on my MacBook again. Thanks
If I was you, I'd go the nearest Apple store and get them to sort it out. It'll cost of course, but at least they'll do it right. The thing is, that this is a problem that people would think twice before simulating for you, lest they end up in a similar soup. The repurcussions are just to drastic. Hence, the advice to take it to an Apple store. When they're done, PLEASE take a backup of the installation prior to doing anything on it using a good disk cloning tool. If however, you still want to attempt it yourself, then you need to grab someone with a MB and clone their hdd using a disk-cloning tool to install it on your hdd. But this has its own privacy & other issues.
Sounds like your getting a kernel panic for some reason. Try taking the battery out and letting it sit for few. The worst thing that could have happend is you corrupted the Mac OS side. But boot to the restore DVD should have worked
I have tried booting from the MAC OS X Install Disc 1 while holding "C" at start up but it will keep giving me the restart computer message. I was told to do a Target Disk boot method but I don't have any Mac available to try this.
I installed vista this way. -I put Windows XP installation disc in format the hard drive. -Restart the Macbook -Put Windows Vista installation disc in, formatted the drive again and installed vista. thats what I did
Hi, First, you shouldn't have formatted your hard drive with XP and then try to load Vista but that's rather obvious now. Since I don't know a lot about Mac, the best advice I can offer is, repartition your hard drive, this will erase any and all previous partitions, formats and memory boot applications. Once you have repartioned your hard drive, reboot and go into your bios. Look for boot and in it's subsystem you should find CDROM, set your boot to CDROM and then save and exit. Put your Mac OSx disk into your CDROM drive and boot to it. Pay attention to your screen as it may ask you to press any key to boot to cdrom which you will have to do in order for it to boot to your Mac disk. When it boots up you should get some kind of instructions as to how to install your Mac OSx. Since I don't know which OSx and my unfamiliarity with Mac, I cannot help you past this point but it should provide you with enough information to reinstall your Mac OSx .......... good luck ......... intrepix
Thanks for your try at showing me what to do. But your method would only work in the PC world because MAC computers don't hse BIOS to set the device for it to boot from. The only way to select what you want the computer to boot from is by holding OPTION key at start up or hold "C" at start up to get it to boot right to DVD/CD Drive. And if you read my earlier posts I have mention that I have tried booting from the MAC OS X installation disc but it keep telling me to restart (kernal panic as it might be called). Therefore I have to use another method beside booting from the installation disc. I am going to do the TargetDisk method and would appreciate some step by step guide on how to do this if anyone have those available. Thanks
i think the easiest way is find and external harddisk firewire prefer installed mac os x and boot from it...once on mac os x the restore your original hard disk use use disk utitlity... i not familiar in window but it should have and function choose start-up same as mac..or maybe you need to install mac drive 6 "let you see the mac drive"just in case..but i think there is no need or you can put the DVD installation MAC OS X AND restart your macbook and press and hold "option" key to choose the DVD.I believe your problem is lie of your formatted hard disk not you computer.MAC HARDWARE IS DIFFRENT FROM PC.Rom-in-Rom architecture also called NewWorld ROM seperates the hardware-specific and higher-level system software into two pieces: 1) BootROM which holds most of the hardware specific component needed to start up the computer 2) Mac OS ROM which contains boot-time toolbox routines and hardware-specific components common to many machintosh computer (BootROM is part of the computer hardware and the Mac OS ROM file is part of the Mac OS sofware) Still got any problem?
when on the DVD installation before you install look at the menu bar choose disk utility and reformat it.so simple...i think you need to work more hard on mac by the way i am very new APPLE TECHNICIAN...helping you is actually pratising if not i really lazy to answering...so if still have problem let me know...
just did a clone of another mac with the Target Disc method, after doing that I restarted the macbook but it still give me a the restart computer message. any other idea?
do you reformat your hard drive to GUID..you must know intel based mac only accept GUID format only..by the way did you follow what i tell you...there is no way will be wrong...i did for few time never wrong...
after restore your hard disk to GUID using the DVD disc1 using the disk utility...before you reinstall the mac os x ...try to download thel FIRMWARE RESTORATION look for the related acticle how to restore....after restore the firmware reinstall your mac os x... after finish...for the best reset every thing like PMU,PRAM and ect.....remember do every thing by using AC OUTLET NO BATTERY....
