I know this is old news but I have a 2 old labtops one with 700mhz,10gb HD, 128mb memory the other has 300mhz,20gb HD, 320mb memory Don't worry this is not my main computer I have a FULLY LOADED Desktop but I want to get these two up and running.
Neither. Try windows 2000. Those computers should run it fine, its faster and better than '98, and don't even TALK to most people about Millenium Edition. Most..buggy..windows..ever. 'Nuff said. Hope it helps.
WinMe - ugh!. 98SE is far better; howewer why not make the machines much more useful/usable with a variety of Linux on there instead ?...
A combination of rubixcube's and my answers; in order of preference - 1/ Win2000 2/ 98SE 3/ Never use WinMe, even on a friend's or neighbour's PC. They'll hate you forever

spawn, I'd have to agree with the order that everyone chose, but the machine running the Celeron and 128MB RAM I'd say Win98SE on that. Win2K machines ran way better with at least 256MB RAM, unless you don't mind waiting for things to load, Win98Se will definitely make that celeron machine seem snappy. The one with the P3 and 320MB should do well with Win2K SP4.
I just uninstall win 2000 there was alot of drivers that only work with win 98 are win me and no update for 2000 on microsoft are HP so Machine 2 has 98 on it and i;m tring to install the network drivers I'll keep you posted.
Compaq Armada 1700 Its werd because it say 1700 on the labtop but on the HP Site the picture is different.
You know the funny thing is everybody dump on Windows ME but thats the only OS that did'nt give me ANY problem with updates are drivers. 1.Win 98SE Could not install my modem and Lan pc Card but when it did Istill could not get online. 2.Win 2000 Pro use to much resource and that made my Com 1 and infrared sensor not work and on top of that there was no update for the modem which made dialup a no go. 3.Win ME Worked perfectly even if there is no more updates but once I formated the HD and installed 98SE and went straight to Win ME without a pause all the drivers that 98 could do Win ME took care of all that. So Win ME is the winner on the Second labtop Compaq Armada 1700 But on the First Labtop I want to change the HD and Add more Memory so i'm going to wait on that one but thanks to EVERYONE who tried to help me. :^}
