Ok i have a Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 graphics card (I know it's over old but I don't play games on the pc) and it connects to my monitor via VGA. I can put this VGA cable into my TV but I don't like the colour and it looks like a lot of noise as well. How do I go about getting a cable that I can fit in the HDMI slot of my tv so that I can watch a couple of HD movies I have on my hard drive. Should I upgrade my graphics card which has a DVI output so that I can get a HD converter to put in my tv?

you need a graphics card that can handle high definition transcoding for a start.
PCI-express cards would be the best at this although some AGP 8x cards can handle HD in most compression formats.
You need a fairly high spec PC, although decent graphics cards will take the strain off a low end CPU by offering decode acceleration.
Also, a VGA connection to a HDTV can usually be the best method for displaying common desktop VGA resolutions for use as a PC monitor.
However, DVI, HDMI or component will be better for video but not for displaying the desktop due to overscan / underscan issues.

Also make sure your computers' resolution for the TV side of the screen is set to where the TV can handle it.
