I hope the mods don't get angry with me for double posting, but this effects both the Shrink and Nero forums. The title says it all. Automatic burning with Nero8 as a supported burner in DVD Shrink will not work until repaired, at least not the version supporting ImgBurn. The problem is the Video_TS folder isn't written into the output going to the DVD. Open the DVD and all you get are the BUP, IFO, and VOB files. The files play fine on my PC playback software. However, without the Video_TS folder, most standalone players won't open the recorded DVD because of the incorrect DVD structure. Burning the output manually using Nero Express from the Nero8 suite works. So, you're not left without burner ware. You have to save Shrink output and burn manually though.

Update: After using the clean tool and reinstalling Nero 8 the Video_TS folder showed up the way it's supposed to. Unfortunately DVDs burned with the Burning ROM still won't play properly. The video doesnt start right and then goes to a track and starts looping. Some people say theirs start in the middle and jump to the end. It acts like the structure has been altered. I tested with older discs with light copy protection to take copy protection out of the variables as much as possible. Shrink handled them easily when using the Nero 7 burning ROM. Changing to Nero 8 and leaving everthing else the same, the discs came out flawed when auto burning with the Burning ROM. The problem discs won't play on my standalone players but will on my PC. Some people say even the PC playback fails.

I have the trial version of Nero8(b) and I'm having the same problem. Do you have any suggestions on helping me fix the problem? The bundle comes with "Nero Home" and "Nero Smart Start". Thx

You can still record the output to the hard drive and burn manually with Nero Express while waiting for the problem to be resolved, if ever. The other options are to revert to an older Nero version or another supported burner.

I went back and reloaded 7 and then 8 again and still the same problems with the Burning ROM with Shrink. The second time with 8 I got the Video_TS folder, but the play in a standalone was still bad. Playback on a PC is okay, but the errors occur with standalone players. So members shouldn't assume there's no problem until having checked the burned DVDs on a standalone player.

The cheapest is usually the variety stores like Wal Mart, if you're lucky enough to find a copy on hand. There's a download from the Nero site. I don't think they're selling the older versions though.

I have an older version of Nero 4 & it works great. I can generate chapters, have animation in the backround etc.. It like it cuz its user friendly. My problem is that I am trying to burn this movie and the format its in says LPCM. Tried to convert with convertX to DVD & AVS video converter.Problem with these is that I have to burn them once they're converted because even after its done converting it, NERO won't take it.I just need to be able to make a menu with this movie file with NERO so I can be able to have my menu and so forth.

The early Nero 6 had problems with XP compatibility. Nero 4 might work for simple burns, but I wonder about overall compatibility of the programs with later operating systems. Did Nero 4 support burning DVDs? I never had a version that old. Also, a lot has been added. I've owned Nero 6 and 7 and now 8. I reinstalled 7 until 8 gets some more of the bugs worked out. I don't need the Blu Ray and HD support yet.

Just curious, you say you had a problem with Shrink. If you told us what it was, we'd have a better idea of what to look for in the log, though there are some obvious items to address. I saw 2 problems right off. You're using CMC Mag media (you're getting a media error), and your DVD ROM is stuck in DMA OFF (if available it should be on). Get good media and turn the DMA on.

By the way, you're highjacking the thread on Nero 8 for a personal help problem with Nero 6. You could have started a separate help thread.

You have 3 basic stages to doing a DVD5 backup.
    1) Decryption (bypassing copy protection) I'd suggest DVDFab HD Decrypter since it's good and free. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Version 4.0.1.2 is currently available. Shrink decryption software is obsolete.

    2)Transcode (shrink to fit DVD5)

3)Burn That's when Shrink turns on Nero (or another supported burner) to record the output to DVD. At this point Shrink is done and the final phase rests with the burning process. Knowing at which stage the process failed tells us what we can exclude or include. Since you got a log, we'll assume Shrink completed and turned on Nero.

Sony +R is an easy item to pick up at most retailers. Verbatim is another. Online Taiyo Yuden is available. Those are 3 of the better ones. Many members suggest steering clear of brands selling CMC if you're having problems. Any major brand made in Japan is usually good.

You can turn on the DMA using DVDFab HD Decrypter. The function is in Common Settings, click the gear shaped icon at top right. Click General and look at the bottom of the window.

I was thinking of upgrading to Nero 8 but was wondering if Nero 8 had Nero Recode because that is the only program I use in Nero 7 and I really like it.If Nero 8 still has Recode is there any difference from Nero 7 to Nero 8? I mean quality wise and features wise. Thanks in advance.

Other than the problem with autoburning with Shrink, I didn't see that much wrong. I tried Nero 8 for a while, but don't really need it yet. Some of the additional features need to be learned. I wonder if some of the problems encountered have been because the user didn't read the manual. Since the program of interest here is Recode, Shrink isn't a necessity. My suggestion is if you like playing with new software and playing with the bells and whistles, Nero 8 is'nt a bad choice. If all you want is Recode and don't want to play with the other toys, then save your money and keep Nero 7.
