PS: For the video card, I may get 2 8800GT and put them in SLi, but only if ATI's newer cards that are supposed to be released this month aren't as good. Comments/Suggestions? EDIT: I will also be recycling my Antec 900 case, and my 2 optical drives. I will also be using my Maxtor 300gig 7400rpm HDD and my Samsung 200gig 7400 HDD as well. In addition, I will be recycling my X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card.
If you wait till January you will be able to get a Q9300 for $266 and i heard that these 45nm puppies overclock like gods, at least that is what I would do. And DAMMIT is releasing their new midrange GPUs on November 19th so you could check those out as well. Also the WD Raptor is just a waste of money in my opinion and you will not see better framerates on games, just maybe faster application startup times( not by much, however). Stay away from vista 64 bit especially when you only have 2GB of ram. And you for sure don't need to spend so much in ultimate. Its bloated and i will guarantee you that you will not use 1/8th of it's features. As far as motherboard goes you cannot use SLI on those, however you can use crossfire. Towards the end of the year nVidia will be releasing their new 7 series chipsets with PCIe2.0 which will be able to support SLI and those, probably, will be superior to X38. Well I know that I will definetly need to work harder to find video drivers for my card in 64bit vista, but I hear its better in performance, and newer games will be more optomized for it. http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=12045 As for the new CPU, maybe I will get that, is it socket 775? Also, what do you think about the motherboards? After reading some reviews, I am thinking more about the Maximus Formula board. Btw, how about Home Premium then?
The Penryl will be LGA 775 socketed (also look into the more expensive ($316) Q9450 since it will have all it's cache enabled: a whole 12MB of L2 Cache). As I said, you cannot use SLI with Intel chipsets(or can you? I wouldn't try it). The nForce 700s will be out before the end of the year. Also I forgot to mention, but the Phenom will released really soon and you should also check out their performance. How will a fake Quad stack up against a true Quad?. Will be as good or better as Intel? (I hope so). Only time will tell. So just don't jump to conclusions between now and then because a whole lot of new stuff is coming out soon. Unfortunately it does not fall into my update cycle ,but the video card does That is a much better choice for OS, the only reason you would ever want ultimate is for Dreamscene which by the way is nothing special. You can get x64 version, but with 2GB i doubt it will do you any good. Don't ruin you overall experience just for one game. Since 97% of PCs are x86 support will be bad for most program, anyways x64 is better, BUT support is not as good.
Wow, 14mb of cache! Man, I dont think modern games will ever use all of that power, or at least not until the middle of next year. I think I am always going to stick with Intel for CPUs. Never was a real AMD fan, although they are nice "bang for the buck" cpus. As for the chipset, a intel cant run SLi? Really? Hmm, so I would have to do crossfire instead if I wanted to run 2 GPUs correct? Lastly, as for the 64bit, I want it because although I only am getting 2GB of ram, in the future I may upgrade to 4gigs, and I dont really want to reformat my HDD to reinstall a new OS.

Actually I think it is only one rebate per household, so get one of these and one of the other ones. THey are the same chip, just have different heatspreaders.
They are the same thing, but I would want to buy the others because they light up, so thats one of the reasons I would want them. I dont mind buying another pair of them later on, I just want to keep 2GB until all of the ram is used up, and then I will purchase another pair. I do fine with my 3GBs right now, its just that they're cheap kingston value ram, and have bad timings. I never even fill 2GB of them.

I think they all overclock the same, so you are on paying extra for the luxury(not much of one) of having someone overclock it for you.
Well that seams a little to much for me, sorry! I'm trying to stay under $300. Also, that mobo uses DDR3, and I dont feel like spending twice as much for something that doesn't show that much improvement over regular DDR2. BTW, I hear that SLi only works with 6**i chip sets, is this true? I think I may wait for ATi to release their new cards on the 18th (I think its that date, plus or minus a couple of days). I hope some of them are single slot designs, I am tired of having huge ass cards that take up way to much space and cover your PCI slots! 8800GT sounds like a winner for now if ATi doesn't release anything better for around the same price before or around Christmas!
i would recomend the corsair HX620 over the antec. and yes the 6xxi can do sli. but the 680i can do full 32x sli, while the 650i can do 16x and 8x ditch the raptors and go for the 7200.10 and the EVGA 8800GTs will give you a lifetime waranty
Too much ram is never excessive. You must have never had the chance to experience 8GB. My friend has 8GB with 64bit vista and his computer hauls @$$ big time. And no the 680i cannot do full 32x SLI. Only boards that support PCIe2.0 can support two cards at full bandwidth and there are none until the 700 series is released later this year. The X38 can support two Crossfire cards at full bandwidth each since it does have PCIe2.0.
DX10. Vista has cleared up a lot of their bugs that they've had, so I think its a lot more stable now.
Here's the lowdown on Vista. It's a damn fine OS, the features are great, everything seems to work fine, bit it is SHIT until you figure out the settings. One of the major problems for gamers, multi taskers, etc. is that Vista is a memory hog, so either stay with an earlier OS, ir disable most of Vista's features, and visual effects.
it is not a memory hog. it utilizes the memory much better than XP, so although it looks like more is being used, its running more efficient than XP
IMO, it's only a memory hog because too mcuh is running. Get rid of aero along with all the other unnecessaries and it won't use that much more RAM than XP. As long as you don't get the 64-bit version you'll be fine.
I still want the 64 bit. I dont mind of vista takes up 700mb, or a gig of my ram. My computer downstairs has it and has 66 processes running. Right now I have 34 running XP. So yeah, I think if I disable a bunch of the crap that I dont need (excluding the aero interface, I think it looks pretty cool) then I will be fine.
