    Hey guys,

Im tryin to restore a friends computer she has a emachines T2958. We have the disks and we are ready with the drivers but the problem is that i can't get it to boot from the CD or DVD drives. I have changed the boot priority in the BIOS, and i've also selected boot menu at start up. Neither of these has worked. She has a few viruses but they can't be completely removed so i need to do this restore. Any help is appreciated.

Try a different bootup disc (like one of those self booting cd's that come with a new hard drive). Maybe the recovery boot discs you are trying are damaged/scratched etc. Try that recovery bootdisc on another computer see if it will boot it up.

The only time I couldn't get a bootcd to bootup the computer, I was getting messages on the monitor saying "could not read input/output errors" . In that case I replaced the motherboard and that fixed it, but that is the worst case scenario.

i think im going to try and reset the cmos because the one thing i found odd was that when the Emachnines logo was displayed no options were given i was really just pressing f-10, f-2, del, and esc randomly ha. i she's also having some problems where the computer shuts down like its overheated but if you turn it off and leave it off it will randomly just turn on....im thinkin its a motherboard so im gonna take it to work and run some diags on that.
