So this might be kind of a stupid question, but I am sending my macbook pro into apple for some repairs, mainly on the optical drive which seems to be dying and I'm wondering if I should delete all my, how do you say "borrowed" apps of the computer first. I have heard that they have the ability to check them to see if they are legit and if not, bring around some heavy fines. But I have also heard that they can't dig around in there because of Privacy Infringement laws. So I'm torn, because I would rather not have to delete A LOT of apps and reinstall when it comes back, but obviously do not want to owe some flow to them either. What do you guys think?

    Thanks!

I would call and straight up ask them what their policy is. They can't bust you for anything on a general inquiry. I know at the school bookstore they would how would you say "back up" your porn onto an external drive that floated around... privacy laws be damned! If you're ultra paranoid just pop out the drive and replace it with a dummy... or do a full back up and format then restore when you get back

I would do a time machine backup and reinstall the OS the restore the backup... Thats what I would do if I sent my computer in... usually I get them to send me parts and I do the repairs myself, because I have a friend who works at the Genius Bar!

Don't bother removing anything. They don't care. Period.

If you can find any evidence (or even stories) confirming that they do, please tell.
