Euro-Vox Max Red Problem

Hi All, Friend has a eurovox red. Came home and box was frozen i.e remote or buttons on front not responding. He uplugged and plugged power back in. Nothing happening at all when power applied, no lights in front just dead. Hes tried different power cable and socket. Any ideas or should I tell him to prepare for bad news?
