hi people i have started to bulid a pc and i have thease parts processor Intel Pentuim 4 2.60GHz HT and heat sink optical drives DVD RW (dual layer) CD RW (DVD Rom) Case PSU (200watt) hard drive Hdd1 40GB IDE Hdd2 20GB IDE graphics card nvidia fx 5500 (APG) i am willing to upgrade to sata hard drives if that possible i am gettong some ram about 1gb and i need a motherboard if anyone has any ideas what else would be woth getting please can you tell me. thanks graham
Dump that whole system. A P4 at 2.6Ghz is below the minimum for what you need today. Also, that 5500 for a graphics card isnt to good either. Go with a Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of ram, a 8800GT (if you want to play games), if not then a cheap x1650 will do.
sorry my internet has been of just got back online today. no its not a gaming pc for more of a media center and the case and psu i going to be new as i am not going to use my old one as there is no point so i am getting a new one , its more the mobo i am worrying about i need some help. i have been look at one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Pentium-4...ryZ44943QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem can you tell me what you think.
That's not a bad setup as a media center. You may struggle to run High Def stuff on it, but for normal TV it should be fine.
this pc i going to be for media center so i can watch dvds and burn them and do other things like making a the od dvd or burn an xbox game. i dont want anything brilliant just something that will do the job. i dont have bags of money so it all i have. i need a mobo for that processor anyone help there and as for the hight diff i dont think so cant afford that. just want to kow if that mobo is ok on the link abouve. thanks
That board will be fine for what you want to do. One thing though that board does not have an AGP slot for your video card it only has a PCI-e slot. It does however have video on board (256MB) this is more than likely shared memory with your RAM so make sure you get enough of that. It does support SATA (2 devices) so if you havent purchased your drives yet go ahead and get the SATA drives. Other than that if your heart is set on this board and it's what you can afford you should be fine. The only real concern I have with your whole system is the power supply (200 watt). Might want to think about that one. Cheers
thanks for the advice people i know about tthe graphics card with this being pci-e. but has good onboard graphics i am getting 1gb of ram whitch is not bad. just order the board i am going to take the advice and get a psu is a bit low like you said. i will put some picture some where when it is bilt. thanks for all the advice.
hi back with the picture what i have got thease are not the proper photo have not took any yet of the actual thing but i am going to. here are the links motherboard http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee237/GrahamNavin/P4VM900-SATA2Enlarge.jpg psu http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee237/GrahamNavin/bWFpbmltYWdlcy9QT1ctQ01QU1UtNTUwLmp.jpg case http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee237/GrahamNavin/Computer_Case.jpg har drive http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee237/GrahamNavin/promo.gif i have gone the extra mileand bought the sata hard drive and 1gb of ram and the psu i bought the case off a friend lol. in all iyt is not that slow.
yes i am but i am spending some more money on getting a new case and a retail psu so i should be fine i am getting a 500watt psu. so i think that would be ok. can someone tell me a good psu to get not over the top just a fair price.
Go with something like a Thermaltake Purepower. Do not buy any old cheap power supply however. A cheap PSU is worse than an underpowered PSU.
