Just built a new PC & trying to network shares to XBOX.
After editing the xml, I can stream everything from the PC great.
But, I've got a few problems::::

    - When I open Music, Pictures, or Movies in XBMC, the samba share shows the complete path name (smb//:pcname/drive name/folder) as the icons title

? How do I change this to show a custom label ?

    - Also after opening the smb share folder under Music, Movies, or Pictures, all 3 drives show up under that folder even though 1 is only specific to that folder.

? How do I specify one specific shared drive to show up under each media selection ?

    - Really the only other problem is that no album art is displayed for any of my artists/albums. They have always worked in the past, and my video folder art continues to work properly.

? Any ideas on how to make this work ?

Everything in Windows appears configured correctly.
The xml is where I believe the problem lies.

    Help.................Help.....................Help

Currently running Slayer's Evox with XBMC from 2006, Xecuter 2 chip
XP Professional, No Security software (at this time)

Update XBMC for a start, also why are you editing an XML file? All options should be configured from the GUI...

    Thanks for the quick reply.

It's been a long time since I've worked with the Xbox/XBMC. I was always under the impression that I must edit the xml to provide a direct samba link to the drives/folders I was sharing.

I did not know such configuration was possible through the GUI. And since I've mentioned that, what section of the GUI do I use to make those settings?

Also, I thought I had the newest XBMC release. How do I check which version I'm running, and where do I find the newest release (if I need it)?

***I've read the manual, faq, and many forum posts, & can find no direct answers to my problems. Please excuse me if these posts are not in the proper discussion group.

Oh, by the way, if I've edited my xml to the point it is "damaged", what can I do to get a new xml. Or will one be provided with a newer release of xbmc.

    Thanks for your help.

Okay, just got xbmc build 6-25-06. Not sure if that is the newest or not, but it was the newest I could find.

Now, how do I update xbmc to this build???
    Then......

I can configure the samba share settings after that.

    Thanks-

I'll try the instructions from the manual on updating my xbmc.

But, I still may need some help on networking my shared drives/folders.

Thanks for all your help. It's due to people like yourself that I choose to use Afterdawn.

To update XBMC, simply overwrite all the current files in the XBMC folder on the Xbox E:\.

When that's done, you can reload XBMC to check it's the new version.

My networking\FTP tutorial has a section on how to network\share with XBMC!

Okay, got newest version of xbmc, set static ip's for PC & xbox.

Created share, but when I go to set permissions windows will not accept xbox as an object name. My computer's name is not XP, but I know this would not affect the acceptance of xbox for setting permissions.

So what now? Can I use "guest" instead?
