I don't have Vista, but I do have Ghost 2003. I have Windows XP. If I just ghost my main OS partition, to a partition on my second hard drive, then try to use the backed up drive to boot, it won't. But if something goes wrong with my OS partition, on my main drive, and I ghost back, it works. Now, if I ghost my entire main hard drive, to another hard drive, and then try to boot from the newly ghosted drive, it will boot up. Which method of the two, are you doing?
if theres any option that says make sure disk will be bootable before you ghost make sure you check it i always zero the whole drive first if its a used drive installation disks (for your harddrive) will also have a good ghosting program on it too ie: maxblast4 for maxtors hope i helped zer0ink
i have vista home premium on a new laptop. here's what I know so far. there is a built in utility to completely back up your drive HOWEVER this will do no good if you are going to "ghost" a new drive that won't be operating in the same computer. does the same thing as xp when it comes to drivers for a mb. Are you using the new hdd in the same computer? If not then I'd say this is most likely the issue.
