Please help if you can, I also appologise if this is in the wrong forum. I recently installed Win XP Pro onto a PC which is purely used offline. XP installed generic drivers for everything and all seemed fine until I needed to run a DVD... The drive wouldnt work due to me having the wrong drivers so I came online and downloaded an update which when i came to install it requested I install 'Adaptec ASPI' so i got that and installed it, the checker on there reads that ASPI is installed correctly and working but the drivers still say 'install ASPI' regardless of how many times i restart the computer or uninstall and re-install. can anyone please help? thanks
Windows XP doesn't require any ASPI layers to be installed, nor does it install any. Also, there are no outside drivers needed for optical drives, outside of LightScribe burners. The generic drivers the XP loads are all that is needed. However, firmware updates are needed, but for DVD-ROM drives, they aren't usually a life and death issue. What do you mean that XP loaded the wrong driver? What program are you using that won't work?
Thanks for your reply but in typical fashion I ended up getting overly confused and bought a new DVD Re-Writter, installed it and it worked perfectly. Thanks for your reply though.
