tv compatability problem or cables?

hi got hdtv 1080i,just bought sony ps3 connected with good quality hdmi cables,film plays fine but menu screen and games are green,is the problem a compatability issue or is it the cables?iv read people talking about component cables would this solve it and would games filmes etc still be in h.d?im not technical and i dont really understand set ups etc,but i dont want to rush and buy cables if its not going to solve this problem,my tv doesnt seem to have a menu where i can adjust settings and im also getting a wide screen picture with band top and bottom,and remote wont let me adjust the picture
