ok guys, ive read all over the place and cant solve my problem. (called gateway for help.......dont bother.....) all im trying to do is connect my PC to my TV through RCA cables. i dont have VGA or s-video on my tv. my only option is RCA. can some1 please help me!!!! i have a gateway with media center edition on it and all i want is to see my computer through my TV. ALL THE HELP IS VERY VERY APPRECIATED!!!!! (gateway rep's are very frustrating!!!)
Uh you really can't do that lol. If you have a good enough graphics card it will support s-video or component out, but not rca. If your TV only takes rca, it WONT display your computer properly, that tv is not MADE to support computer input. You will need an lcd, something that has a resolution (IE 1368 X 720 or 1920 X 1080). You really need an HD tv in order to use your computer with it.
Oh i have a good feeling that theres at least 10 ways to connect it via rca, but you wont be able to see your whole screen and the image quality will be complete garbage. you will NOT be able to use a tv that does not support computer in as a monitor. It's just not feasable.
I beg to differ. I use my media center pc with only a standard def tv and the WIndows Media Center app and everythging for videos looks great. sure you can not use it for web browsing or video games but if all you need is for divx and xvid watching your good.
--To add to my previous post All the OP needs is a s-video to composite adapter. the resolution will be the same.
Like Lowjak was saying, use an S-Video to RCA adapter if you have a standard TV without an S-Video jack. Radio Shack carries these adapters. Then go to Display Properties> Settings Tab> click, Advanced> Display Tab> Turn on the TV. Any Questions?
not really. i got to looking at that link that you posted before. i understand how to turn it on. just gotta get the adapter. thx for the help.
thx for the help. found a adapter and it works. the only problem is its in black and white. and its like i have 2 monitors hooked up. when i go to drag something all the way to the right it carries over onto my tv as a seperate screen. any way i can make wat im doing on my computer screen show up exactly on my tv??? like instead of haveing to seperate screens, make only 1 screen out of it??? and how can i fix the color problem??? ALL HELP IS VERY APPRECIATED!!!! you guys have help me so far, please help me out with this 1!!!
Try to describe the color issue in detail. What are you seeing exactly. Here's a paste, from another forum comment, which I would agree with the concept. "The problem you are seeing with the colours is due to the colorspace conversion from TV world to PC world. As you probably know, TV's use NTSC colour (National Television Standard for Color - or as many broadcast people will call it - Never The Same Color), or in Europe and Asia, there is PAL (Phase Alternating Line.) Your PC uses the RGB colorspace. When you use a TV Tuner card in North America, you are capturing an NTSC signal with the card, but displaying it on an RGB monitor. Inevtiably, some color changes are going to occur." Other factors which would cause color variation between the PC and TV would be: 1.The quality of the cable you using to carry the signal from video card to TV. You using an adapter. This may be part of your problem. 2.Cable company signal too strong. 3.Quality of video card. 4.Quality of TV tuner. 5.Signal type, DVI, HDMI. 6 etc.
but i thought other people that have used the s-video adapter said it works fine. the problem is its in black and white. and the second problem is its like i have 2 seperate computers. i have my computer monitor that shows all the icons. and the tv just shows a blank screen with the backround with no icons.
What is happening is that your desk space expanded to the right of your. Example drag a window to the right and it will move over to the TV. Right click on your desktop and goto properties and then to display settings you can change this there. you may also find color settings in there. Make sure you have the latest drivers for you video card. What brand and model is you Video card?
ATI x300. is there a way to make my computer and tv show the exact same thing??? ive been looking and cant figure it out.
In your display settings do you see a check marked box that says "Extend the desktop to this monitor"? If so un-check it. Asuming you have XP or Vista.
When i get some more time i will have to hook up a monitor to my HTPC and check it out. What is the exact specs of you PC hardware and OS. Also did you figure out the b/w issue yet? is the whole screen b/w white or just video?
everything is B&W. and i have a media center gateway. pentium D 2.8, 4 GB of memory, about 1TB HDD. ATI X300 128mb
