I have some generic USB barcode scanners that we use in our business. Over the weekend I was scanning just fine, probably around 2-300 barcodes. Came in Monday morning and it will not scan. It beeps like it has read the barcode but will not output to screen. Even in notepad. I unplugged it and plugged it into a different computer and it works fine. I tried a different scanner in the same computer and it still won't work.

In device manager on the computer it works on it shows up under "Human Interface Devices" and is named "USB Human Interface Device". Nothing shows up in device manager on the computer that it doesn't work on. So I can't even uninstall the drivers. I tried unplugging it and restarting the computer then plugging it back in. No dice. I tried downloading latest Windows updates. No dice.

There is no manufacturer of the scanner, as I said it is generic. Model is ZT-800U. Search in google turns up nothing useful. Scanners were purchased from Geeks.com. They are no help as they say it is not the scanner that is broke, something on computer.

    Help me please.

    Perform a system restore perhaps?

    Hi Klassic,

Most barcode readers need to be configured correctly before they can be used. This is done scanning a series of barcodes in order. These barcodes dont do anything other than "program" the scanner to work on certain systems etc.

I found this after looking for you on google.

This guy has the same scanner and has used this to configure his scanners to work on XP and Vista. You just need to save the jpg file, print it out yourself and then scan the barcodes in succession.

It could just be a simple thing like the scanner has lost its config.

Let me know if it helps.

I'll try the restore. I try reconfiguring. I don't think its configuration of scanner because I have tried it in several other computers and it works fine. I will let you know the results.

As stated, nothing shows up in device manager on the computer in which it is not working.
