I have a Dual Core 2, 2GB Ram, and 600W power. I've got my eye on a GeForce 8600GT, would this be any good? Also i have a couple of other questions, why do some graphics cards have DDR2 and others have GDDR3 my system uses DDR2 RAM does this mean it can't run a GDDR3 Card?
gdd3 is faster. the memory is different. you can run a gddr3 graphics card as long as you have the pci express slot. you dont have to have ddr3 memory. how much do you have to spend for a new video card?
What 600W power supply do you have? The brand name is quite important. Some 600W units don't produce anywhere near as much as they say they do. As for which graphics card, the best one you can lay your hands on at the moment is a Radeon HD3870.
The Jeantech Arctic isn't a very good power supply, but you could do worse. As a precaution I'd replace it with a higher quality one, such as this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=446788 As for the graphics card, what's your budget? Or does the £100 include the graphics card and the power supply?
That's fair enough, it should suffice. For around £100, I'd recommend one of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-085-HT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=416
Thats great thanks for the help, can you tell me whats the difference between this and a 8600GT is there massive difference or just little bits. I'm not looking to run the most advanced games i just want something with reasonable performance.
The HD3850 will beat the 8600GT hands down. It even beats the 8600GTS hands down. It's probably double the speed in most games.
