regardless whether I hard reset it by pressing the reset hole for 10 secs or follow the manual's 6 steps of hard reset.

the router simply refuses to reset to its factory default setting, kept on prompting for password. neither the old passwd nor the factory default passwd (admin: <blank>) work.

what are my options?

Whenever you want to configure your network or the
DI-524, you can access the Configuration Menu by
opening the web-browser and typing in the IP Address
of the DI-524. The DI-524 default IP Address is shown
at right:
 Open the web browser
Type in the IP Address of
the Router (http://192.168.0.1)

Note: if you have changed the default IP Address assigned
to the DI-524, make sure to enter the correct IP Address.

Type admin in the User
Name field
Leave the Password blank
Click OK

done all that & more.

no go. *shrug*

i hard reset it several times, using both methods (one for the A, C, D , E HW rev, the other for the B HW rev)

the passwd just couldnt be reset to <no passwd>

wrote to DLINK US and talked to DLINK Hong Kong. both sites have not been able to come up with any substantial solution.

so i went out and bought myself a ZYXEL P-320W. hehe
