    Hi all ! I know that a Lot of Afterdawn Members think Fairly Highly of Liteon DVD Burners ! I have a DVDR Recorder made by them that I am fairly Pleased with so far !!!!My question is that does anyone have any Direct experience with this model -LITEON DX-20A3H-05 20X LIGHTSCRIBE External Retail? Either good or bad ? What intrigues me about this unit is it has SmartWrite technology = The new 20x optical drive features “SmartWrite”, is a self-learning mechanism that automatically detects and decides the optimal “write strategy” for each DVD±R recordable media. The phrase “write strategy” refers to the precise combination of optimum write power and recording speed to produce the highest quality recording in the fastest time allowable, based on the media used in the process. The drive not only determines the best write speed strategy automatically, it also memorizes the writing strategy for every single type of media previously used for a faster, better quality DVD recording experience. !!! This sounds similar to BenQ's Solid Burn Technology although it probably is a proprietary program of Liteon? Anyhow I am asking Because I am still Debating Getting a External DVD burner to use with My laptop ! It has a burner built in But I figure externally I would have more options ? anyhow Thanks for your help and merry christmas !!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10007116

    @BIGTOXY69

    I is a very good drive; I have a slightly older model LH-20A1P with KLON firmware. It is well praised @CDFREAKS and yes I know @rpc1 has been down for awhile. That is a very good price for factory external; It is not much cheaper than building one yourself.

    Lurk around the FREAKS and see what they have to say and you could probably find firmware if needed.

    The reason it looks so familar to Benq is LiteOn bought them (That is why their are no more). They have been blended in to make the last/latest generation of LiteOn's.
    Burn On,
    Russell

    PS. I don't think you will be disappointed with this choice.

    pernal- Thanx I knew about liteon Buying Benq ! I bought a Benq DW-1655 back before they got bought out by Liteon and I use it regularly and often ! No complaints there ! And I have a Liteon 5005 DVD Recorder that I bought awhile back That works well so I am a little bit Familiar with them( Liteon ) and I know that many Afterdawners speak well about them So They must make pretty Decent Drives !!!!!!!!! I'm mainly going to use it with& for my laptop ! It has a DVD burner built in which works pretty good But takes awhile ( 8X Nec ) I realise that I may not get 20x speed burning from the laptop with the
    LITEON DX-20A3H-05 USB DVD Burner Black External ! but it will save wear and tear on the Laptop drive and give me the option of better burns do to the SmartWrite feature and Booktyping which I believe the Liteon does and my laptop internal does'nt ! anyhow I thank you and everyone else for you help Wish you all a Merry Christmas or whichever holiday tradition you observe Peace !!!!!!!!!!!!

    pernal- I better love it ! after much research , a large amount of outside help {THanks} and many hours of thinking about it I ordered one from ZZF (ZIPZOOMFLY) and that takes care of that ! Between QVC, DeepDiscount.com & Ebay we've been package recieving fools ( well maybe just one fool Me?) Now All I have to decide on is whether to get more memory for the laptop & Whether to buy it at the Repair shop & let them do it or Buy it online and let them do it ? I could probably do it myself But From what I Understand on My laptop {Cisnet Nascar NCL-3006} the memory slots are located underneath the keyboard and I may not have the tools to do it correctly ? So I guess I'll Check with them 1st & see what they'll charge me with their memory vs. mine ? and then decide ? The computer works pretty well but is a little slow on burning ! I figure 2gbs of memory & The new burner might help that ! anyway Thanx again Merry Christams & I'll Keep you posted whatever I decide Ciao!!!!

    BIGTOXY69 bro, just burned a dl+r and some data cds and dvd-r (dvd-5)and no probs. Look like nice even burns on the dye side.The unit feels kinda light in my hands and not as beefy as the Pioneer dvdx122 burner.Now if anyone can tell me how to booktype my Pioneer 122 unit to dvd-rom for +r single and dl, it would be much appreciated

    Got it on the 14th -12/14/2007 burned a couple movies to dvd seems to work good enough ! A little light weight-wise but if your going to schlep it around I guess that's not a bad thing ! the vertical stand is a sloppy fit in my opinoion ! but I plan on just setting down so that's not a biggie either! The manual is pretty basic but read it anyways. I have'nt tried any highspeed burning with it yet just 8X so far but it works so that's good ! I've downloaded the Smart burn software & Booktype utility from Liteon & the manual for that ( PDF) & read that as well ! I am fairly familiar with dvd burning so it's pretty straight forward ! I have'nt tried the Lightscribe feature on this burner yet ! But I've burned a few LS disk on my Benq 1655 so I know what it looks like . I mainly just do the sharpie thing - Printable media is expensive , it looks nice though ! Besides I run out of ink enough already without printing disc LOL! True ! well I'm looking forward to trying it with the laptop & also burning some 16x media to see what I can hit speed wise for experimental purposes ( I usually just burn at 8x mostly ) but it's worth a try right let me know if you find media that this deck really likes or dislikes ? Though with smartburn as long as it's good quality media it should'nt make much difference ? anyhow good luck merry christmas & happy Burning !!!!!!!!!
