I would've added this question to my old post HERE but wasn't sure it would get the exposer I needed. When ripping to my HD with DVDfab platinum should I be selecting DVD5 or DVD9 when I intend to encode with Rebuilder then burn to a DVD5. Just looking for best quality on a 55" TV

The whole point of using such a brilliant program (for me and i'm sure many others is NOT to use a DVD-9), why on earth use a dual layer disc when Rebuilder can produce incredible results on 6/7GB of movie in 4.4GB ???

i.e. why are you people using Rebuilder at all if you're putting movies onto Dual Layer, it just doesn't make sense...

exactly, i certainly wouldn't be wasting money on dual layer media (well i've never bought one, never will but i digress!) with a program such as Rebuilder in my clutches. It even does amazing things with FULL discs ie full discs of Episodic data, not just movie only mode.... i can't believe some people would waste money on dual layer media when it's just not needed :p

i have used dl a couple times. I used it to back up the Godfather and Titanic, both of which were in the low 40's. This was before i ever tried rebuilder.

Hey all I think the op was trying to rip the dvd using dvdfab without compression so that it could be compressed by rebuilder

i know, and my answer remains the same, i personally have Rebuilder permanently set to DVD-5, i still don't see why anyone would need to use DVD-9 when using such a program (in fact i don't see why said people would even use Rebuilder or anything else to save space after ripping as any normal DVD data is already the right size to fit on a dual layer anyway), but hey, each to their own

I think my explanation was bad dvd fab (not hd decryptor) can compress a dvd but when set to dvd9 will not compress the folder which is greater then 4.3Gb or a single layer dvd. The folder is then compressed with dvd rebuilder to fit on a single layer DVD-5.

i still know, and my answer still remains the same :)

..and my confusion is still the same, ie why DVD-9 even comes into anything to do with Rebuilder. i know there's a setting DVD-9 in Rebuilder but i still don't know why it's being mentioned :)

Yea, that is the way i read it also and i agree set it to rip dvd9 and let dvd rebuilder compress. The other way would be defeating the purpose of using dvd rebuilder.

My answer wasn't to put it on a double layer but to decrypt at the dvd9 setting in Fab to let rebuilder do its job to put it on a dvd 5 as what my settings are. Chris
