I installed bioshock recently and I was surprised that the game was so slow. I have a Dell Optiplex 755
it has Windows Vista Home Basic
    2GB of RAM
    nvidia geforce 8500gt 1GB
Intel core 2 duo 2.66ghz processor
The game was so jerky on the high graphics settings but even after disabling them the game was barely playable. I also tried the "can you run it" test on this page
    http://www.nzone.com/content/nzone/srl/nzone_srl.asp
and my computer passed the recommended requirements.
Please tell me what is causing the problem.

No my pc isnt overclocked. I forgot to mention that my monitor is a very old LG. It is one of those cathode ray tube ones. Could that be the problem?
    thanks

Check the refresh rate of your monitor, check if your putting some setting which your monitor cant take. Try setting everything om low and increase each aspect and check how the game plays, u could find out the real potential of your GC. Press Ctr+Alt+Del, and check how much Ram is being used when on the desktop. This could even happen if you have virus.
