Hi peeps im having major problems connecting my PC to my Plasma Tele. TV : Samsung Plasma PS50C96HD Graphics Card BFG 7950GT I can connect my TV to my PC by a VGA cable but wen i use a HDMI - DVI cable i get no signal. So i then went to my TV's manuel and it said in very little font "does not support HDMI - DVI through a graphics card or laptop. Is there any reason for this? The TV isnt very old at all. Is there a way of overcoming this or what would be the next best thing to connect my PC to my TV. Please Help me! Thanks
Well you could use the vga connection and if you have a monitor as well then assuming you have VGA and DVI outputs on the GFX card, just get a DVI to VGA adapter so the card becomes dual VGA out. The only thing you could try, (or make sure of) is that when you connect via DVI to HDMI, make sure your desktop resolution is set to a standard widescreen HD format, ie 1280 x 720P or 1920 x 1080i. I believe some TV's do not recognise resolutions outside of these parameters over HDMI. What's your issue with using VGA?? If you get the DVI /HDMI connection working you will probably have overscan which means some of the desktop will disapear of the screen and you will have to use software settings to compensate for this. It's all a big pain in the arse to be honest. Just use VGA at the highest resolution the TV will like.
thanks for your responce. I did what you said and now i get picture. However if i set it to 720p my desktop top is to big and if i use software to shrink it down my TV goes out of sink. If i set it at 1080i the size is just great however the quality is not. The font is very pixelated etc. Any ideas?. Is there diffrent dvi cables i could use or is it a resolution issue?
MMmm!! Difficult one at the edge of my knowledge base. On the 1080i setting you copuld try setting the "clear type" setting in control panel like thisto improve clarity of fonts: Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. 2. On the Appearance tab, click Effects. 3. Click to select the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box, and then click ClearType in the list. If that does'nt help I dont know what to suggest. Have you tried 1080P (dont know if your panel can accept that)?? Or consider using VGA. (VGA supports HD resolutions aswell you know, but your TV might not accept the 1280 x 720P (widescreen HD format) over VGA. (you might end up having to use 1280 x 1024 which is a higher res than the 720P but the TV will scale it back down if native res is less) Another good idea would be to try and set a custom resolution over VGA that is exactly the same as your panels native res in which case you would have 1:1 pixel mapping. (no scaling by TV) e.g your native res might be 1366 x 768 which means of course even a 720P signal gets scaled by the TV.
