That laptop looks to be perfect for regular use. Since it comes with vista, a duel core processor and 2GB of ram are a necessary, and that laptop has it. Although the graphics card is pretty weak, I don't think your wife would be doing any intense gaming on it so I wouldn't worry about that. As for the wireless card, the card that comes with the laptop should be fine. If the router puts out a strong signal, then the laptop should be able to pick it up easily.
looking at loptops myself what kinda router is needed, say to range a whole ranch type home? isnt there like a " B G N" type cards/routers??? what about going out of town what would ya need to get connected wirlessly?(if thats a word) would you just take that router with you?
Well wireless N routers are currently the best out there. I am not sure what kind you would need for a ranch, but I do know that it is possible to connect 2 of them together and have 2x the range. You just need a wireless card, which almost all laptops come with now, and a wireless access point.
looking at the one gotbeer posted, that seems to have it all then so there wouldnt need to buy a bigger/better wirelss card to travel with? the one in it should do fine? and if all else fails you could hook up via eithernet cable right T10/100
