Right I just did my first game cube mod, this is the only mod we've done except a Wiikey two weeks ago(which worked great). I've not managed to get a copy of gamecube games to work from a mini DVD yet as the Wii/GC doesn't like them, I have made working working multi game disks though. I've not hooked the gamecube upto a TV yet, but I've powered it up, with the full size multi game disk(without the GC case back on). I made sure i pushed the switch so it thinks the drive lid is shut. As I say I can't see if it hits an error, but the Xeno GC lights up really dimly, with 2 LEDS one red and one orange. What does this mean? The site I bought it from claimed it was a version 2.0. I can hook it up to a TV on Saturday. Thanks for the help. *edit* Forgot to mention, we did a wire install, but the wire would not solder to the points on the game cubes disk drive board. It just wouldn't stick, kept coming straight off, we've kept trying and got it to work, but I'm not overly confident.
The leds should go from red to green. Then just stay at green. I would check my install again then if that didn't work, it must be the POT. You will need to adjust the laser POT, tweak it to about 170-210 ohms. I got mine running at 204 ohms. Guide for laser tweak Click on 'guides and tutorials' on left then 'adjusting the pot'
The Chip seems to be installed fine, but It won't read any backup disks, even multi game disks I've tested on my Wii, and they work. The gamecube plays real disks, but the chips LEDS are still both lit, one on Orange and one on Read, I thought it was supposed to be just red, then switch to green. Any Ideas?
Definately sounds like a bad install. Check all your solder points. The led should never be orange on a good install, just red upon power on and then green while reading.
Tried soldering again, this time only get a much brighter red LED on, but it still doesn't go green, it just spinds up then says no disk and the light stays red. I tried the lasers POT at 180, 210, 220 and 300 it was originaly at 169. Still said no disk, I tested it with a full size disk of just mario kart, i know it works, tested in our wii. I've not got any mini dvds that work. Gonna try remove all the solder and start again.
Usually you need to adjust the laser DOWN. So if you started at 180, then you should try 100 or so. Just because a disc works in the Wii means nothing - they are different DVD-ROMs.
Yeah, you should just never go under like 85 ohms cause the lower you go the more powerful the laser beam gets.
I know but it does indicate that I didn't have a bad burn. I think we'll try resolder it then if that doesn't work, lower the laser.
It does not indicate that the burn was good enough for the GameCube or even that the disc media is compatible. The Gamecube is much more picky than the Wii. You don't have any regular GC games to test with?
I have loads of original games, they all work fine, but the light stays red whilst playing them. My mini dvd's were a load of crap no burns worked on them. sO I'm hoping to get full size disks working and then get a replacement case.
If you tested it with an original and the light stayed red, then it must be a bad install. With a known good original disc and a good install the red LED should be on for about 3 seconds after power on, then it should flash off for a fraction of a second and then the green LED comes on the rest of the time.
