can this montor display hd content? what i mean is when i click a hd video on gametrailers.com will it display hd on my monitor? this is my monitor, http://www.ciao.co.uk/HP_W19ev__6644108
on that website it says my monitor has a 1440 x 900 / 60 Hz max resolution but when i click menu on my monitor the resolution is 1024 X 768.

It will display the HD content at high detail, however this is not real HD quality as you see it. If you have a HDTV which can support a 1080i resolution then you can really experience true HD. But the videos you see are just very high quality. If you want to see it on your comp, you'll need a Good Graphics Card.

Even if the HP W19ev is HD compatable, you need to plug it to the DVI socket on your Graphics card.

The Monitor can display video at a HD resolution (720p only though), but whether it's HD or not depends on what you're connecting it to. What are you watching HD with? A blu-ray / HDDVD player? A PS3? A 360? Ripped MKV/TS files on your PC?

Ya basically as sammorris said it all depends on the monitor and what you connect it.

Well that depends, if your source isn't HD, then yes. If you are using an HD source then no.

    Let me make this clear:

If you have a HD Monitor:
-You must connect it to a DVI port (white color) using a HD cable.
-The content you view must be HD (780i, 1080i)

If you don't have a HD monitor:
    -Content will appear High Res.
-You would have a blue VGA wire connecting you monitor to your PC.

There is no 780i, only 720p. Progressive scan isn't offered for the lower HD resolution. Don't forget about 1080p too.
As far as HD goes, some monitors hve HDMI inputs, that's best, but isn't always seen. Some also have component inputs, which can be used for HD material as well.
Any of the following formats can send HD signals:
    VGA
    Component
    DVI
    HDMI

The monitor, as long as it's resolution is higher than 1280x800, can display HD material. The issue is now the source. What is your HD source going to be?

I think trying to say this multiple ways has caused confusion. What we're trying to say is if you use a High def source (HD-DVD/Bluray player/PS3 in HD mode / Xbox 360 in HD mode/ PC playing HD films) then you WILL see High def content. If you're using standard def (normal DVDs / any console in SD mode / PC playing normal video files) then you will be seeing standard def, but on a higher resolution screen (note: this will not look any better than SD usually does, typically it will look worse)

That rather depends what TV you use. If you're using a CRT TV, it will look clean, but not very sharp. If you're using an LCD, PC monitor or High Def TV, it will look smudged and generally a bit nasty.
In HD mode, the picture will be needless to say superior to either.
