I'm also a +R convert, mainly because all my burners booktype and I've heard that's the best way to insure compatability. Even so, I still have some -R 8x Verbs and TYs around.

Personally, I think i achieve better results with the +Rs but that might be because I use them alot more than the -Rs.

i burn the TYGO2s (8x) at 8x and sometimes 6x the TYGO3s (16x) i burn at 8x also some burn them at 12x but i don't recommed that. if you have the TYGO3s (16x) make sure you have up to date firmware for your drive/burner to support them. quality wise ( TYGO2 vs TYGO3) there equal.

I'm out of my league here, hopefully aabbccdd can explain or someone else, but I've had better results with the 16x media than the 8x (I've mainly got Litey 20x dirves) which is why I prefer the 16x media.

I'd say it's a pretty close call from my experience between -R & +R but compatibility and maybe in my own little world I think the +R booked are a little bit sharper. Correct me if I'm wrong and if it's alphabet i want the correction by Adriana LOL Chris

hobbit
i booktype all my +r also. but lately the +r price are a little higher than -r. my brother only uses -r.. i guess if you have a newer stand alone player it really wont matter.. i have an older one that is fussy and a new one that plays everything i put in it.

the other crazy thing is that none of my boxes are check for booktyping. but the log alway says it is booktyped.
i use shrink,nero, or just recode sometimes. i gave up on try to figure out how there where getting changed.

@born2ride,

I think Shrink and Recode have an override setting for booktyping incase it isn't set in your burner's firmware.

Alot depends on your burners. What do you have???

i must of missed it somewhere but you burn the 8x ones at 8x and the 16x at half speed. why not at 16x? have you had play back issues over 8x?
i have always burt a half the disc speed. never really played around with faster ones..

Cost-wise between the -Rs & the +Rs I think might be because the rest of the world has caught up or passed the US in usage. Most of the rest of the world use mainly the -R format.

Hopefully those are SATA drives or connected via a RAID otherwise you might have problems. (Haven't checked I don't immediately recognize them).

I've seen the quality go down going above 8x except for the Lg on the printable Verbs 16x at 12x but even then it's a hit or miss 8x comes out the best for me no matter which burner or media and the difference between burn times isn't worth it to me. The old Plextor just likes to scoot along at 4x and thats the only reason i buy the 8x, tillif and when it ever dies.Chris
