I just downloaded Vista SP1 RC and it is seemingly stuck on the "shutting down" screen, it has been for about half an hour. This happened after downloading the two updates and restarting. Has anyone else encountered this? I guess right now my plan is to just let it sit overnight and hope it restarts, but it is taking an extremely long time, and I don't want to a hard power off, although the warning against doing so is gone and it now just says "shutting down." Anyone else encounter this?
If it's still in the download stage, just disconnect. Start the download over. Are you downloading from the Microsoft website? Do you have high speed Internet or dialup?
I'm on high speed. I've already downloaded it, its stuck at the Vista "shutting down" screen, after it finished installing the two items. I'm wondering if its just taking a really long time because its a service pack or if it's not going to shut down eventually.
It's had more than enough time to install. You appear to have a hung program. Check Task Manager to see if process is running. If the program is not responding...Reboot. Once your powered up again the program should finish installing. You can check in add/remove programs to see if it's there. You will need to put a check mark at the top of the add/remove page to show updates.
I installed Vista SP1 RC1 Refresh a few days ago and have been sorry ever since. The Service Pack never installed and I cannot access my computer or even start it up with the Vista Installation DVD. I recommend to everyone that they NOT install SP1 until it is released to the public. Check out the forums on Microsoft Technet and you can read about all the problems everyone that installed it is having. Good luck!
vista sp1 rc1 v.668 is working fine on my desktop, and my brother's laptop. had it eversince the start of the month. took an hour for each system to upgrade, but there was no hangs. the shutdown screen shouldn't be longer than a few minutes. if it takes more than 10 minutes, then something is hanging the system.
