That's bizarre. Does the coloured patch change at all (shape, size, colour, anything) if you touch, wipe or rub that part of the screen with your hand? If it does, there's probably a fault with the LCD, if it doesn't, it might be a controller problem. In either case the monitor is faulty. Assuming it's less than 3 years old you should be able to have Dell replace it free of charge.
it dosent change color when i press on it, i got this monitor from a friend of a friend, so i have no receipt or anything so i would probably get no help from dell would i?
Not necessarily true. Dell can usually tell how old one of their products is by the service tag number printed on it somewhere. If you can find out what that is and tell it to them, they may still take a warranty claim. It's certainly worth a try.
No worries. If no luck there are places that can have LCDs repaired, but I've no idea how much that's likely to cost.
