Hi, does dvd rb work with downloaded video files on the hard drives in avi format or only on original dvds ripped onto harddrives? Aazy
AFAIK DVD Rebuilder will only take DVD files VOB's, IFO's etc. so you will need to convert you avi first and then use DVDRB on your VIDEO_TS folder.
LocoEng, I am really getting confused here. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. I am going to start over again. Question: I am using nero express to burn. I have downloaded video files on my harddrive (movies in avi). I recently burned a file and it was too big, the quality was atrocious. It asked for dvd 9. I had a dvd 5. What tools do i need to burn a dvd 9 file in avi to a dvd 5 disc(single one) and maintain the dvd quality picture and sound(dolby digital 5.1)? Do the downloaded avi files already have ac 3 sound? Can i incorporate it if it doesn't? Thanking you in advance. aazy
Unless you have a DVD player that can play avi's you have to convert your avi to a DVD compliant format with a different program other than Nero Express. Express is a burning tool, not a conversion tool. I suggest you plug your avi's into DVD Flick and set the output to DVD-9, then use DVD Rebuilder to compress your movie enough to fit onto a single SL disc. Your avi's should have mp3 audio that will can be mixed to Dolby 5.1 with DVD Flick...look in the audio preferences. Loco., i couln't find where i should set the 'output' to dvd 9? Also, is there somewhere where i can get step by step on what to do with converted avi files and how to go about using RB after conversion? I read somewhere that i upon using RB to use Imgburn because it recognizes RB, would you agree or should i stick with nero express 7 ultra? Thanks, Aaz
ConvertXtoDvd will convert just about anything to DVD & shrink it in the process. No need for anything else.

You could also use The Filmmachine to convert avi files to dvd files. It converts using Procoder, CCE, or HC encoders, and you choose the target size (dvd-5 or dvd-9), so there is no need for dvd-rb in this case.
