Ok, Am planning to reformat my computer by myself and I read a lot about it on the web. The thing that scares me is the driver installation. Since it doesn't come with a cd, I need to manually install each one of them. Can someone please provide me a link or a mirror that has all the drivers you need for XP Media Center Edition SP2?
Sorry for a second post...I don't know how to edit my already posted message... You would need to know what kind of labtop you have and maybe the serial number so you can look it up on the makers website. Then it will show the drivers and downloads for your specific labtop. I would check with the site first to make sure the drivers are there before you reformat.
Yes. I have a windows CD to reinstall my XP again. But I don't have a cd for the drivers. I just need the basic drivers that comes with your computer when you first bought it.
driverguide.com has a driver extractor tool that collects all the drivers you could try that there are several other tools out there too 'my drivers' is another
That tool will work or check the website of the lappy mfg. They should have the droivers under the support section. You will be asked what your laptoip is and what OS you are running.
Ok I'll give all the exact detail on my computer. In fact, I have a list of drives but I just couldn't find them on the net. Here it goes.. Ok sorry. My system model is HP Pavilion 061 PX721AA-ABA M7160N 0qn1114RE101LIMES00 I dunno how to get the motherboard though. Can you tell me where I could find its model?
Go HERE I think this is what you are looking for. Media center is XP without some of the networking features.
It's not exactly the same. A reformat with your OS wipes all your other programs from your drive. A recovery will rewrite your OS system files leaving in place your other programs so to speak. Always do this stuff. "Ghost" your drive with clean OS install and all your working programs. If this isn't an option then... Do a clean install of your OS. INstall all your drivers and make sure they work. Back up your registry of only OS install, use regedit. Install your most used programs 1 at a time. make sure they work. Back up your registry with all your programs installed. Save these registry backups to a disk. Ghosting by far is the easiest way to restore your drive in the event something goes south on you.
ghost is from symantec. i think can get similar versions from hd manufacturers as i used seagate's recently on a 300gig drive.
