    Hello,
I downloaded an avi file. The details according to AVICodec are: Video:701 MB (701 MB), duration: 1:30:00, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 51 %

    Video:635 MB, 986 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 640*272 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4,

    Audio:66 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

windows XP Explorer says the audio is only 1'12" and all the actors sound like Donald Duck. Naturally, at this speed, it is out of synch too. Is there any way to slow the audio down? I have demuxed the audio with VDM but I am not sure what to fiddle with. Does anyone know what I should do to match the audio speed to the video speed? Is it the bitrate?

    Try this:

In VDM, click 'Video' > 'Frame Rate'
If the audio and video are different, change them to match and convert to fps rate.
    Save as Direct Stream Copy.

Attar! that worked. Thanks a lot. It is all in synch and is now watchable. Strange thing is that they still sound like Donald Duck. I can put up with that but just thought I'd ask.....is there any way to lower the pitch(?)a bit?

Another method From 'Mistycat' Drag your original file into the top window, highlight it and select "generate data".
In the lower window' highlight the audio and if anything other than 0 appears to the right, select "start" and in a minute or two you'll have a new file to use.

Well, I tried it and the audio came up with a zero.I am happy that I can now watch the film so you can put it down as a success. Thanks again for your effort and time. Regards.

Try this, it extracts the audio, changes the pitch, and puts it back in the AVI.

    Load the AVI into VirtualDubMod.
Click 'Streams' 'Stream List' 'Save Wav' - give it the name 'original' close VDM

Open Audacity and drag in the wav.

'Edit' 'Select All' then 'Effects' 'Change Pitch', select a value and test 'till satisfied
    then 'ok' to change.

Export the modified file.'File' 'Export as WAV'.
    Close Audacity.

    Start VDM, load original AVI.
Click 'Streams' 'Stream List' and double click on the stream to disable it.
    'Add' the new WAV.
Right click on the new stream and 'Full Processing Mode' then 'Compression'
Choose 'Lame MP3' and 48000,128, stereo then 'ok', 'ok'.
Make sure 'Video' is 'Direct Stream Copy'
Save the new AVI and test; 'File' 'Save As...'
