Its a hardware fault as opposed to a firmware fault.

1.Remove the cap (c21) electrolytic near the ribbon on the psu board.
2.Boot the box , it should boot to on and function correctly , the psu will hum ignore it , just let it boot to ON ,then turn it back off.
    3.Replace electrolytic cap (c11) 1000 mic @10v on the psu board , resolder (c21)
    thats it done.

You can get caps from Maplins they can also be found on fleebay item No 110091935709.

ScoUser you are a star, my clone starview box was crashing constantly, followed your advice step by step with new parts from Maplins (a few pence!!) and I'm up and running - now the wife can watch her S$y film this evening!

Many thanks for your efforts as without them I would be buying a new box!

    Merrrry Xmas

2.Boot the box , it should boot to on and function correctly , the psu will hum ignore it , just let it boot to ON ,then turn it back off.

    Hi milan

Thought someone else would chip in but I'll explain what I did from the above instructions:

Open case to reveal power supply (smaller board), unscrew 3 screws and unclip plastic stand-off. un-solder c21 as written on board, boot unit, then shut down. remove c11 and replace with new part, re-solder c21, replace board etc. Cross fingers after reconnecting and switching on!

I obtained the replacement cap from Maplins 1000/35v high temp as all the shop had!! This faulty art was singed with a swollen lid by the way..

    good luck!

Hi, I just wanted to thank Scouser and Celtic for all there help they give to these boards.

I have had this Jtagging problems with the intermittent on off every 10-15 secs or so. I have just been to maplins and replaced 2 apacitors
that both had ballooned at the top.

I replaced them with 1000uf 16v 13mm Dia caps. I requested the 8mm dia i had taken out, but this was the smallest they had in stock. They do offer 10mm but like i said they didnt have any in stock.

So it took me all of fifteen minutes to replace and resolder the caps in. It worked treat and it has actually improved my picture which i shouldnt be really suprised as dont capcitors act as a type of filter.

Anyway a big Thank you Again.

I can now watch footie without any worries.

Ooh for anyone interested the other capacitor was C12 and the first one i replaced was C11. Exact same values 1000uf 16v so i guess these work together so anyone who nay be dissatified with there first replacement i would recommend replacing c12 as well i think they both work in series with each other but some else may correct me here.

Here's a fresh link to the maplin capcitors for other interested in doing this.Maplin 1000uf 16v 13mm dia Capacitor.

Sorry to hear the bad news, dont dump it though as someone may come up with a solution, I would say try replacing the PSU board entirely but they are hard to come by.
