What are these Intel x48 CPU's? I keep hearing about these new CPU's coming out in 2008. I would love to know because I'm making my first build this weekend and I don't want to screw up :(

    Thanks for the help

X48 is not a new CPU, but a chipset. A chipset is a small CPU based on the motherboard that handles interaction between the main CPU and all the other components in the PC. The X48 is just a new one of these. Based on what X48 is going to offer, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Stick with P35 or X38.

Apparently Intel are ditching DDR2 for the X48 chipset, meaning your limited to DDR3 RAM only!

How many people can afford 4Gb DDR3 RAM!?!

Oh and (apparently) you can only have 2x slots filled with 1600Mhz RAM?!

Think I'll be sticking with me P35 for the time being lol

Only DDR3? Then I'm definitely not interested. Have you seen how much that stuff costs? It's not even fast. CAS7, ugh...

It does seem the x38 chipsets will rule this year. You can't go wrong with a new 45nm chip, 1066mhz corsair dominator ram and a 3870. Seems a killer combination.

Which I'm very tempted to do with my humble P35. I can you know, but probably won't because I'm not rich enough (sigh). Oh and by the way, Crucial Ballistix Tracers not XMS2 Dominator. XMS2 is great RAM in normal PCs but if you're pushing it to the limit, the Crucial mops the floor with it.

If they're normal LEDs you can probably just clip the legs off!
