I've made several VCD's with Nero 5.5.4 and they work fine. I tried a SVCD today and it plays fine but when trying to FF the counter freezes and the audio gets out of sync. The only way to watch the CD is straight through. I'm using Smart ripper, FlaskMpeg with the BBmpeg plugin, and an Apex 500w DVD player. Any idea where the problem may lie? I've messed around with a few settings like constant bitrate but I'm getting tired of wasting discs experimenting. Any ideas?

This is an extremely common problem with DVD players -- so it doesn't have anything to do with your burning or anything like that, but with your DVD player instead. Try to contact Apex to see if they've newer firmware versions available that would fix the problem.

I will try it on another player. It's odd though that I have no problems with the VCD's. I actually just ordered a new firmware chip, but I think it only addresses Region codes and Macro. Thanks for the reply.

In the dvd player reviews, under apex I read something about scandat.dat file need to be added to the SVCD to fix this kind of problem. I could not find more information on it.
If anyone knows about this will appreciate if they add the url for that page.

hmm, i dont know if this will help, but i found a page with a reference to a scandat.dat file on it, and the url is: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/pharmacology/dcpr95.html
the page refers to a program named scdir that deals with scandat.dat files. i didnt really look too deeply into it, but give it a shot. when you get to the page, just do a search for scandat.dat on the page and you will see it.

Regarding the scandat.dat file, It is created by the Nero only for the SVCDs not for the VCDs. This is in Nero 5.51 version which I currently own. It is a text file with a single line
containting SCAN_VCD, which is in the ext folder. That is all.
Nero does not allow to add any files into these directories though.

i have nero 5.5.3.5 and it appears that you can drag and drop files into the compilation (upper) part of the window, and it has, under the "ext" branch, a file called scandata.dat, note:, scandatA.dat not scandat.dat hmm... i dunno
