Hi there,
After installing the latest version of shrink Version 3 beta 5. I followed the rip and burn guide on this site step by step. Except, unlike the guide where you can select what compression level you want. The only available options I had to choose from were Auto or No compression. Is this normal? if so, if auto is selected does it choose the best compression rate for the minimum amount it has to use to fit all the selected items on the DVD? or is there a setting I didn't select? I'm sure I couldn't find one.
Anyways, I went ahead and burned the authored files to DVD with Nero 6. The problem is I can't play the DVD in my PC,an error message pops up stating that there is a problem with the disk and that it may need cleaning. (Can't be, because they are brand new HP DVD +RW disks) but I can play the DVDs fine in my standalone DVD player. (However, I do have to force the menu to come up though by pressing the menu on my remote control, otherwise the DVD tray ejects. Very weird!) I've had this same problem with different media and also when I used DVD X copy platinum. Has anyone had a similar problem? any suggestions will be very welcome.

most of the guides show shrink 2.3. shrink 3beta actually gives you 4 options, not 2. They are none, auto, ratio, stills. The auto will automatically change the compression to fit the size set for the disc. As you get rid of audio streams and subtitles, the compression will automatically change.

What I do is go to the extras, click the ratio and you can slide the compression to adjust the compression of the extras. You can do it to the individual menus or the the whole group. If you leave the movie on auto, it will get less compressed. That way the movie has the least amount of compression and some of the junk is on the disc but more compressed than the movie.

Plays on the standalone, but not the computer. It could be the media--standalone is balky with +rw? I don't understand why your dvd on your computer wouldn't read it. What kind of burner reader do you have? What Nero settings did you use. It is in the VIDEO_TS folder? Hmmmmmm....

Quite right there are more than two options I just couldn't remember them. So in a nutshell leaving Auto setting on is the best option?
My DVD burner is a HP DVD300i, I'm using Nero 6. I selected the DVD Video option in Nero 6 to burn the files. Selected all the other default settings, And yes I made sure that all files were placed in the VIDEO_TS folder.

Hi, once you have the movie loaded, right click o it and go to re-author. Getting rid of the credits at the end of the movie makes an amazingy difference, though i always get rid of the extras and credits, i've used dvd shrink to do spiderman and terminator 3, get rid of the credits and extras and you have the original quality on dvd-r, no compression at all.

Ofcourse seeing as i own the movies already i have no need for the extras, but even if i were being an ass pirate i'd still get rid of the extras...

*edit* i use Record Now DX to burn the image, had never used it before yesterday, very easy, good to see a lot of good, reliable burning s/ware out there these daze, nothing like the drama of copying cds back in the day.
