Eject EMPTY CD-ROM WITHOUT Keyboard.

    Im setting up an older lampshade iMac for my 2 year old daughter. since shes been using Macs she knows the volume, eject, brightness keys etc. So i decided to do away with the keyboard when not needed. But i needed a way to eject a EMPTY optical drive without a keyboard. I use ejector on my MBP but it didnt have that option. It took me about 2 hours to find this and reading dead end forum post. So i figured i would post it here in case someone needed it too.

    Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/
    Doubleclick "Eject.menu" and it will put an eject symbol on the menu bar.

    This sticks for the current user. But I'm sure you could add it to a login items list and have it run for every user. Otherwise, each user will have to do this once. Or, do it on a generic account and use that account as the template for new users.
