This guide is intended for PSP SLIM users. But it also can be used for semi-bricked FAT PSP's as well.
As of now there is no other way to recover a semi-bricked PSP SLIM without using a Pandora Battery + Universal Unbricker.
I have created this guide to help those that might not have a second PSP running custom firmware. This will guide you through creating a Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick using your semi-bricked PSP SLIM.
Download the file linked below...
Due to the size limitations on Media Fire I have split the download file into 2 parts. You will need to download Part1 and Part2 then place both Parts in the same directory on the PC and choose Univer_File.part1 to extract. Part2 will automatically extract with Part1 creating the complete folder.
Download Link: Media Fire Part1 and Part2
Mirror:
Send Space Link (1 full file): HERE
Sendspace is a free file hosting service. If you get an error when trying to download keep trying. It just means the free service bandwidth is at max and no more users can download at that time. Just keep trying to download it and it should start the download once a slot comes open).
Go into recovery menu by holding down the R-Trigger while powering on the PSP (If the recovery menu doesn't come up then you have a full brick and will not be able to use this guide).
Then toggle the USB so the PSP and PC connect via USB cable (a card reader will work as well).
Extract the file and go to the Easy Installer folder.
Start the Easy installer by clicking on the START Icon.

Select Language 1-3 Then press Enter.

Press any key to continue.
Type in your PSP Drive letter. Then press Enter.

Select "1. Continue To Pandora installer" Then press ENTER

Skip formating the memory Stick Via System Settings since you can not boot to XMB.
Press ENTER when it ask to insert new disc (you should already have the Memory Stick in the PSP).
It will scan the Memory Stick.

Type Y then ENTER when it ask if your sure you want to format.

Take out the Memory Stick and then toggle the USB off.
Then insert the Memory Stick and toggle the USB on again.
Then Press any key to continue
Select Option 4 "Universal unbricker for FAT or SLIM (This installs custom firmware 3.71 M33-2)"
Type 4 and Press ENTER

The files will now be installed to the Memory Stick.
After it has finished writing the files you will get an image similar to below. Just type Y and ENTER to finish the instillation of files to the Magic memory Stick.

Press any key to close the DOS box.
You are now done with the Easy Installer.
Now drag the RECOVERY folder that came with the download above to the /PSP/GAME folder then toggle the USB connection off.
Go to "RUN PROGRAM AT /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP"
This will start OS Pandora Battery Tool that will convert the Battery to a Pandora Battery.
Press X at warning screen to get to Main Menu.
Select "backup battery eeprom to ms0:/eeprom.bin" (This step is important! It is needed to recover the Battery to normal).
After the eeprom is backed up go to "convert to service mode"
After it has converted the Battery Press X so the selection arrow goes to Quit Now.
At this time turn off the PSP by holding up the Power Button till it turns off.
Now take out the Battery from the PSP then reinsert it back in (make sure the AC Adapter is not plugged into the PSP).. The Universal menu should come up letting you reinstall 3.71 M33 to the PSP SLIM.
When it is done installing the custom firmware it will tell you to Press X to turn off the PSP.
After the PSP turns off take out the Battery and plug the PSP in via AC Adapter and turn the PSP on (without the Battery inserted).
After the PSP boots to XMB place the Battery into the PSP and go to Game Menu Memory Stick and select OS Pandora Battery Tool.
You will get the warning screen again just press X to get to the Main Menu. When the Main Menu comes up go to "flash only serial from ms0:/eeprom.bin"
Go to Quit Now and it will exit to the XMB. Now turn off the PSP and unplug it from AC Adapter and take out the Battery.
Now re-insert the Battery and place the battery cover back on.
You have now recovered your PSP SLIM.

No because recovery menu is not available on official Firmware. You need to have custom firmware installed when the semi-brick occurred.

Yes you need to use a Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick.
If you know someone that has a custom firmware PSP use this guide HERE to create them both with the custom firmware PSP.
If you have no access to a custom firmware PSP then use this guide HERE to create the Magic memory Stick with your Official firmware PSP and either buy a Datel Tool Battery or Hardmod the Battery (if Compatible) to a Pandora Battery.
Thanks for the stkie Binkie.

Yeah I like the OS Pandora Battery Tool better because you can recover the battery by only writing the serial of the battery from the eeprom.bin instead of writing the full eeprom back to the battery.

Mmm...so you are saying its better to write the serial back to the same battery instead of wrinting a whole different eeprom to it?

I can fully vouch for this method since we just did this entire process with my semi-bricked slim last week. Mine was brought back from the dead. I lost my XMB, and couldn't boot anything but my "M33 recovery menu". This process worked for me since i couldn't access the XMB or get the PSP to normal boot.
(much thanks and props to Larrylje & Rorro_Rey)
It works 100%...but like Larry said make sure to save your batteries orignal serial from eeprom.bin.
Otherwise, you'll have a fairly useless battery for everyday use. And in turn have to buy a new battery. But on the upside...if you don't save your eeprom serial DO NOT try to set it back with the generic serial code they offer. Just leave it alone and you will have a Slim Pandora's Battery at your disposal to do whatever you want. (i.e. mod other peoples Slims, or as a back-up to fix your own again)
If you you try to set it back to normal without the oe serial number you'll ruin the battery, so it's better to just leave it a Pandoras Battery and go buy another battery to run your PSP.

Yes this will work on a FAT as well but you can also use normal recovery folders to recover back to 1.50 which are located HERE (these recovery folders linked here are for FAT only).
But this method would actually be the quickest and safest way to recover your FAT without going down to 1.50 then back up to 3.71 M33-4 again. This would just put you to 3.71 M33-2 then all you need to do is install the 3.71 M33-4 update.

HI....can anyone HELP me PLEASE!!! I think my son has semi bricked his psp and thought someone might advise me how to unbrick my psp. I guess thats whats wrong, I get a blank screen when i turn it on, however if i hold the right tog down i can get to recovery screen. I know absolutely NOTHING about a psp, I bought it off someone for my son for xmas and it was working fine (i think he may have hit the upgrade or something?) anyway this is where I stand now...clueless@!#
I have tried downloading some file from dl.qj.net/ and I followed the instructions (I think i did it right, was a bit confusing) anyway is there any easy way of recovering my psp? the guy before us said he had upgraded the firmware but i dont know to what, and it was working fine when i got it so i dont know if this has anything to do with it. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Use this guide HERE instead if you already have a custom firmware PSP to create a Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick to install custom firmware to an Official firmware PSP.

Excellent guide but I got one question.
Forgive me if I have missed something, I've read so many guide I'm starting to get confused.
Ok, so using this guide I am able to convert the standard slim battery (PSP- S110) into a pandora battery then turn it back again buy using the OS Pandora Battery Tool. I don't need to modify the battery physically or need a orginal phat battery (PSP-110)
Thanks.

If you have a compatible SLIM battery yes you can convert it to a Pandora using the OS Battery Tool.
Basically you take a risk with any modification.
Mine was not saving the serial and it cost me a battery. So what i can tell you is yes this works. It will turn your factory Slim battery into a real working pandora battery without having to futz with cutting or modding the internals. But since i did not save my factory battery serial number I can't tell you if the factory slim battery will go back to normal.
But you can...if you do this please come back and give us an update if it worked or not. So future people can get a better idea on how well it goes from Pandora back to normal.

It already has been tested and does work on PSP SLIM Batteries. I wouldn't post if if it didn't.
