install new harddrive

    I have a Gateway that is 3 years old.I want to put a bigger harddrive in it.I am now running Win xp.I want to put win vista on the new drive.Could you give me the steps I will have to go thru?Will I have to back up anything.I really don't have any personel things on it.

    If you are installing a total new drive you will not have anything to back up except all of your personal data on old drive you might need to see if if your computer is compatible with vista it requires a lot more than xp
    1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

    1 GB of system memory

    40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

    Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:

    WDDM Driver

    128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)

    Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware

    32 bits per pixel

    DVD-ROM drive

    Audio Output

    Internet access
