so i went out and bot a gig of ram, its compatible, exactly what i needed. i had 1 gig already in there. i installed but it wont read both sticks. so i tried the new one separately without the old one in BOTH slots and it read fine and i did the same thing with the old one in both slots, then i tried using both in both slots, and reversing their slots as well, but the pc wont read that theyre both in there. it still says 960mb of ram. and i know that its expandable to two gigs. any help? thanx.

Are the old and new sticks the same brand? If not that can cause a hiccup in the system so to speak, and the computer may not recognize them. It's always better to try and use two sticks of the same brand.

both old and new are each one gig. theres only 2 slots. tried them in every possible combination and they work separately but not at the same time. its expandable to two gigs so it shudnt be maxed out. and no theyre not the same brand unfortunately.
