Hi Everyone Can anyone recommend to me any programs that can recover lost data? I had a external hard disk that is now not being recognised by my computer because of a power failure Its a Freecom 500GB Drive and I am out of warranty (just about) and it has a lot of important data I need
Have you tried Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software. A file and partition recovery utility which recover lost data from formatted hard drive. It also recovers data from inaccessible hard drive and support recovery from external hard drive CD, DVD, USB storage media. Try with the demo version. Download it from http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm If the demo is able to show you the preview of the recovered data then get the full version to save it.
What happens when you plug it in to your PC? Are your running Windows XP ,Vista...Linux? Do you receive any error messages? If none show up when you plug it in does anything show up in Event viewer? (go to Start>Run and type eventvwr and click ok. check under system for any error messages related to your external hard drive). There is a list of some free & commercial mostly Windows based file recovery utilities here: http://www.freebyte.com/filediskutils/#datarecovery Good luck!
I have used the freeware PCInspector Data Recovery and it worked for me. It works with the FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS file systems.

this program won't recover your data but it will fix your hard drive if it has corrupt sectors. Once fix all the data will be back where it's suppose to be. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
