I have been searching for an answer on PS 1 back up but I can only found topics on cd-r back up of PS 2 games. So here is my question: what do I need to do in order to play the back up of PS 1 games (CD-R)? I have a PS 2 v7 and have no problem playing DVD back up (DVD-R)games, nor do I with the original PS 1 games. Thanks

You will need to either modify your PS2 in some way or use the slide card method described in many posts here in this forum.

PS2 - v8
Mod - Magic V
Burner - CenDyne (Pioneer) DVR-A05
Media - Anything Cheap

Gamecube w/Broadband Adapter
Phantasy Star Online
Animal Crossing Loader v1.4
Phantasy Star Uploader v1.1
Gamecube ISO Ripping Server v1.0.0.29

You might be able to use the swap trick with a Gameshark or Action Replay disc provided you can find one that works on a v7. I used to do this with a no-solder mod in a v4 and it worked.

Yeah, I think you are right. I have a friend who has an earlier version than 5-9 and he was able to play some PS 1 back up games using the GS. Unfortunately, mine is v7. thanks, Icemonkey.

Anybody else can help?

So AR nor GS works to play PS1 backups for v7? I assume that this would be true then for all versions after version 7?

I've been wondering the same thing on how to play backups of ps1 with slidecard...

Stunn611,

I want to know how I can play the back up of PS 1 games, not how to back them up.

here are swap magic instructions.

Swap Magic Instructions (For Booting PS2 Imports/CDR's)

(You must have the Flip-Top casing correctly installed for these instructions to work!)

* Boot up the Swap Magic 2 "CD" disk.
* Wait for the PS2 to boot up until "Insert Disc" message appears on the screen.
* Now open up the Flip-Top.
* Change the Swap Magic 2 disk with your PS2 CD game disk.
* Press "X" on your controller,
* Your PS2 backup will now load.

Swap Magic Instructions (For Booting PS2 Imports/DVDr's)

(You must have the Flip-Top casing correctly installed for these instructions to work!)

* Boot up the Swap Magic 2 "DVD" disk.
* Wait for the PS2 to boot up until "Insert Disc" message appears on the screen.
* Now open up the Flip-Top.
* Change the Swap Magic 2 disk with your PS2 DVD game disk.
* Press "X" on your controller,
* Your PS2 backup will now load.

I think many people who don't have swap magic don't realize that it does not work for PS1 games, only ps2 CD and DVD games. It cannot play out of region DVDs, nor PS1 games.

The question I think is how does one play PS1 games with the slidecard/flip top method?

Stun611,
PS1 backups?
I've been trying to figure this out for a while; I also have a v7 w/fliptop. I've tried the Swap Magic disks, Active Replay 2 disks, an old GameShark Lite for PS1, and various self-made boot disks, all to no avail. Someone has the answer to this. I wish to hell I did, because my PS1 console is shot, and most of my original PS1 disks are in very bad shape thanks to my dear, sweet, lovable nephews Beavis and Butthead.

stunn611,

thanks for replying, but perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I know how to operate the flip top, and have no problem using it with PS2 DVD-R backups even with games that require cd loader method. I only have problem with PS1 backups. I did do as you mentioned. Wonder if the size of the CD has anything to do with how the PS2 read them such as 650mb and 700mb.

it is true that the ps2 version of gameshark v2 will not work on v7's and newer, but the ps1 code disc does (and this disc comes free with gameshark v2's) although, you will need the 'dongle' (memory card lookin' thing). this is how i play ps1 backups on my v7 with and fliptop. it's no mystery.

Thanks SoCalSRH... I'll have to look into that, although my only fear is purchasing it and trying it out only to have it not work.

I just read another thread talking about breaker pro, which is used with SMDs... That could be a means to play ps1 backups on newer machines?

It's found @ www.ps2cover.com

There was a swap disc for the ps1 that I think was called PSX-change or something like that. My brother has one and I'm pretty sure he said that it will boot ps1 games on the PS2. The disc costs like $20 but works the same as swap magic. If anyone would be interested in this as a way to play ps1 games I would be happy to try out some of my backups on my PS2 and let you know if it worked.

I'm using a PS2 v.7 and I can use the swipecard method with a Gameshark for PS1 in order to play certain PS1 backups. You just boot the PS2 with the Gameshark for PS1 the same way that you would with a PS2 game.

Working PS1 backups
Roadrash Jailbreak
Samurai Showdown 4
Star Trek Invasion
a few others

Unfortunately, I cannot back up PS1 games that are protected with libcrypt. Resident Evil Survivor has caused me to burn about fifteen coasters now, and I'm thinking it probably would have been cheaper to just buy a backup copy. Oh well.

I think for Christmas I'm going to get myself a DVD burner and a CDr burner that handles subcode copying better than this Mitsumi cr4804te.

If someone finds out something new and interesting about how to get past LibCrypt, even if your burner is kind'a sucky, feel free to give me a shout.

Did you push that button? Great, now we're really f*&)!d
