Last June I purchased a Pioneer DVDR-104. The unit has been working well until recently. After upgrading my computer to Windows XP and upgrading the firmware to v1.20 RPC-1 to make the drive region free, the unit doesn’t recognize any kind of DVD-RW or silver DVD-R, even the ones recorded with this same recorder. I tried the unit in other computers using different OS with the same result: it only works as a CDRW recorder and a DVD Player (with purchased movies), but it won’t record any DVD and it won’t even recognize most DVD-Rs.

    Any suggestion?

    hi navarros
i also have the DVDR-104 and have downloaded last night the 1.20 RPC-1.but have not tried it yet!
    so thank you for posting!
    if it was me
a)i would try the firmware again (which ofcuz you've tried)
b)turn off everything running in the background then try.
c)go back and re-download and try.
    d)try a pioneer firmware
it may help if you posted what firmware you had before the "upgrade"
that all i can think of at the mo.i feel for you
    hope this helps-best of luck

I'm just wondering....is this the same player installed in the VAIO MXS20?

I ran CDVDINFO and it told me I have a:

    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Firmware Revision 1.30

It sounds the same. My firmware was 1.30 which indicates that it is the OEM 104 drive. If the firmware was 1.20 then I would suggest that it was a retail Pioneer A04 drive.

The ability to "backup" copyrighted CD is down to the Software (ie Nero, CloneCD etc..) that you use. CloneCD claims to be able to make 1:1 copys of all CD's and there is a database availible with presets to bypass most cd protection systems. Try www.gamecopyworld.com

You dont need a firmware hack to do that...

yes well i have copied a already copied dvd befor no problem

when i tryed to copy "we were soldier" and "panic room" using primo dvd it comes up with an error, i think it said reading error or something?? and the dvd is over 7 gig (maybe something to do with it being miltilayer?)

i try to rip them it using dvdx
it works but with no sound
my bro can rip them no problem with his dvd reader

i dont think there is any problem with the reading on my dvd writer coz i have copied loads of other things with no problem at all

i was reading a page that said the Pioneer DVDR-104 has some kind of protection on the firmware to stop people copying copyrighted dvd's

can someone plz tell me what im doing wronge??

    thanks

    Opal
