Hey everyone, I've got a old PC that i want to stream videos onto my TV. I've got a monitor cable that i used with my laptop. on my laptop all you have to do is press the function button for presentation mode. on the PCs keyboard there is no such button. does anyone know how to do this or can it not be done.
Need a little more info to help you... What kind of video card is it ? ATI and Nvidia both have "control panels" that allow you to setup a 2nd device to use for output. You have to go into that and setup your TV that way. I believe "displays" will be in the ATI Cat centre and you should be able to detect your TV. It is alot easier if you have a DVI port on your video card and HDMI on the LCD TV. then you can get a DVI -> HDMI cable and it is pretty much plug and play.
i've just looked on www.pcservicecall.co.uk had they say i have a Intel 845G integrated graphics, do you reckon that'll work?
actually, just tried turning it on and there is nothing happening. there is power on the board, i think the switch might be faulty but i don't really know the motherboard that well, not really up to date with knowlage either, any ideas
hmmm thats always fun..... First off, not sure if that on board card would work. You may want to see if there is any drivers or utilities that would allow you to do this. Or if you get your motherboard problem fixed you can buy a cheap ATI card with DVI out and do what I suggested above with the cable. Also.... If you have a viewsonic LCD TV I have seen them not work correctly if using the VGA port and any of the video ins (S-video) on the TV. My father had this issue with his and it is considered normal by Viewsonic. in regards to the MB (motherboard) what kind of board is it ? socket ? or what CPU is in it ? If it is an older MB it could be done for dinner. Many boards made a while back had cheapo capacitors on them that start to bubble and fail. This would case the problem you have or.. could be a bad power supply.. if you have another power supply you could try that. All depends how much trouble it is and if it is really worth it?
You will only be able to use a direct VGA connection, as Intel integrated graphics does not have an S-Video connector.
sorry to jump in guys, but iv the same problem,but i want to connect a second tv to pc??? won't pick it up??
hope thats to me well tv is a samsung syncmaster 255w hd ready..not sure bout card,where would i find out??
Yep, it's to you. Go to your device manager, and look under display adapters. You can get to your device manager by right clicking on my computer and going Manage. Then simply click Device Manager Update: I can't find an existance of a 255w. Do you mean 225bw?

ok but i want to use tv as norm, and just use it for movie streamin from pc etc...what should i do ..its connected but no pic, does it need driver??
Indeed, you can use any of the methods listed above. If you're not going to run a normal monitor off the PC, you may as well use the direct VGA cable. Those cables are quite cheap, and offer a decent high-res picture. The PC's probably not powerful enough to produce HD material, so don't bother with DVI. Assuming you're on the right AV channel for the cable you're using, the PC should give a signal at least initially when it's booting up, even if it doesn't once it enters windows. What resolution have you been running the PC at before you started using the TV?
oh but i want to run both, and just use 22in for movies etc, but pc monitor would be off during that..
