I have a compaq presario with an AMD Sempron Processor 3200+. Not great I know. Problem is that it came standard with 256mb ddr ram. I installed another 256 pc3200 ram as it called for.
When I go to system properties and check the ram it says that there is only 448mb of ram
I do not think that this is normal is it? Do not know if there is a bad chip on the stick or if there is something in the computer that is pulling the ram down to that or what.
I did a mem test diagnostic and it passed. If there is another test that can be ran or if you know why this is happening, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

some memory is used for the integrated graphics. so it's normal, if you don't have a graphics card.

Correct. You have 512MB of RAM, but the integrated graphics processor will use 64MB of that as it has no memory of its own. 512-64=the 448MB that shows in device manager.
