I have an avi complete with subtitles that plays fine with VLC Media Player. On a PC, selecting a language of my choice is no problem. What I want to know is if I burn that same movie to a DVD with the subtitle files and try to play it in a standalone DVD player, there doesn't seem to be any way to select any other subtitled language other than the default. Is it even possible to select other languages on a standalone player with divx formatted videos?

If I understand the question, it was 'can I put multiple .srt files on a CD/DVD data disk with a DivX file and select the subs'.
    If so, you can.
Normally the .srt file has the same name as the video [myvideo.avi and myvideo.srt] and that is the default.
You can burn other files named myvideo.2.srt myvideo.3.srt etc and select the subtitles using the 'Subtitle' button on the remote.
