Alright, I've got the full series of the BBC Planet Earth in 720p avi files, they are aprox 2.1gb on average so slightly too big for my 2gb memory stick. I've burnt 2 files to a data dvd and played them back on my PS3, only to find that both programmes have been cut short by about 4 minutes each. When i looked at the actual file on the PC via Windows media player, they last 48 minutes not 44 minutes.
Even on the data disc on the PC they are 48 minutes long.
Is this the 2gb limit on DivX i have heard about?
Thanks for reading.

Yes this is because of the 2GB limit.

Thanks Marcusita.
I've just looked at the size of the file on the PS3 and even that is 2.12gb, does the PS3 just stop playing files at 2000mb?
What is the point in this?
How would you watch a divX file over 2gb?
Thanks.

Yes from what ive read it will stop at the 2GB mark,i really dont understand why they would limit it to 2GB,im not sure if you can stream any file that is over 2GB.
I think Sony will raise the maximum size limit of DIVX files with future firmware updates.

Yes, the PS3 will stop playing a DivX file once it reaches the 2gb mark (2048mb) in the video. I have no idea why, maybe it's some crazy licensing thing. Anyway...
There is a way to watch DivX files on your PS3 that are larger than 2gb (well... before we split them).
1) Open up the file in VirtualDubMod.
2) Press the "video" tab up the top of the VirtualDubMod window and select "Direct stream copy"
3) Press the "File" tab and select "Save As", then tick the "Segment output file box", then you can enter a figure in megabytes that you want your file split by.
Watching it over separate files may not be the most enjoyable way to watch a video but at least you can watch it all on your PS3, until they hopefully (the sooner, the better) bring out firmware where we don't have to do this anymore.

Good stuff Ryu, thanks. Is there any loss in quality using VirtualDubMod?

No quality loss at all as you will be direct streaming. All you will be doing is splitting the file, no re-encoding will be performed at all. Just don't forget to change to that setting (Direct stream copy) in the video tab. The audio will be already set to direct stream by default.
I'm happy to hear you like my set-up. I like it too... ;-)
