Im having a problem with burning a nrg image in nero. I am able to select 4x to 32x (max speed) to burn at but I want to burn at slower (1x preferably) but I cannot select it. Please help. Thanks in advance. I have a LG cd-writer and using XP.
Ya thats the wierd thing with nero .... i cant seem to do that either. My best guess is that Nero is designed for the regular user in mind who, as regular users do, wants to burn as fast as possible so i dont know a way around that with Nero. With other burning apps you can do as you please tho.
The minimum speed is always 1x. Like I said, Nero really restricts your capabilities as it caters to the general crowd

Negeative on that Those are the speeds NERO will give you with that burner. As a quick counterexample, take a 2x RW disc -- you wont be able to burn that at 4x with Nero (and you shouldnt be able to burn it at 4x period). Like I said before, Nero does restrict your actions quite a bit -- if you look back to the older versions of Easy CD Creator and Nero, they didnt have this 'issue' (of course by older, I mean about a year, year-and-a-half back)
No LG burner faster than 8x can burn slower than 4x. My LG 32x can't burn CD-Rs slower than 8x. This is what I mean. I can burn CD-RW discs slower than 4x, of course.
I'm LOOKING at an LG 16x10x40 that can do 2x and 1x. That's the thing about RW burning, it is purely a physical limitation -- not software imposed. You cannot burn a 2x RW disc at anything faster than 2x.
The LG 16x can burn CDRs at 16x,12x, 8x, 4x speeds. Not slower than 4x. And CD-RW discs at 10x, 8x, 4x, 2x. Clock it and you'll see it's 2x with CD-RW disc.
I concede your point Although I dont know what possessed me to say 1x .... I havnt seen a 1x DISC ever. I got confused between CDR and CDRW. (I thought you meant 4x was the slowest PERIOD, as opposed to slowest CDR speed). Curiousity, why did you say the min speed of the latest drives is 8x? The latest LG CD-R burners all have an 8x minimum speed. At least since the LG 32x. LG 48x: http://www.feurio.com/English/Writerdb/Data/lg_gce-8481b.html However, I think that the same chipset is used in LiteOn drives, and they allow 4x.
I have a GCE 8320B cd-writer (max 32x) and you're right it does have a minimum speed of 8x because I dug out the manual and it was the slowest speed listed for writing to a CDR. Never knew that the minimum speed of a writer would be an issue. Thanks for your help guys. One quick question (not sure if I should start a new thread). Can I convert nrg to cdi?
Yes. To convert a wierd cd image file format to a more familiar format (i.e., BIN/CUE), open up CDMage, drag-and-drop the wierd file into it. It will pop-up a box for you to specify the format; simple trial and error will resolve this minor hurdle. Now when that is done, File --> Save As. Give it a name and it will save the BIN/CUE for ya. To convert a wierd cd image file format to a more familiar format (i.e., ISO, BIN/CUE), open up WinISO goto the Convert menu and sleect the "Other Image Format" option. Select the source file (the werid cd image file) and give it a final name. WinISO will convert the image to a ISO for you. If you prefer a BIN then when this is done, goto the Convert menu and select ISO to BIN and repeat the same. Once you have the BIN/ISO fire up Paragon CD Emulator and create a new Virtual Disc and use the ISO option.
