try another usb cable & also see if happens on all your usb ports. try printer on another pc to see if it does it or not. any exclamation marks in device manager? uninstall your usb ports in device manager & restart windows so can find new hardware & load it's drivers for the ports.

Could have something to do with the power management with the USB hub. I cant quite remember how to check, but its a possibility.

Sounds like you have a shoddy printer on your hands. Have you tried it with any other computers yet?

I have seen this issue and of all things it was actually the power supply.

I swapped power supplies and the issue was resolved. If you can try a spare power supply out I think theres a good chance that could be the issue.

Somehow the extra bit of power being drawn was locking up the system or something.
