It seems to me that the ps3 in particular the cell processor will bring about some innovative pc components what effects do you guys think the ps3 may lead to in pcs?just curious.
i dont think that the cell processor will have any big impact on the pc. the cell lacks out of order execution and would not run very well with the kind of stuff a pc normaly does. lots of code would have to be recompiled to be able to run on the cell architecture and there would need to be a new version of windows made to run. there will not be a desktop version of the cell.
intels nehalem will be the next big thing for the pc. penryn is just an update to core 2 and not a new architecture. i believe there will eventually be an 8 core 32nm version in the future. it will come out the end of this year or early next using 45nm. that is the only big thing i know about right now. nvidias newest video cards are just hacked together and not really anything new. also amd is working on combining the cpu and gpu into one package. but that will only be usefull to home users because it will be only as powerfull as normal onboard graphics.
